This year Archbishop Brunett turns 75 years old; the age he is required to send in his resignation to the Vatican. The News Tribune of Tacoma reports that Brunett is one of 27 archbishops in the United States who turned 75 this year. Brunett is the leader of a half-million Catholics in Western Washington.
In November, there was much anticipation for the Archbishop's visit to our school. The students were excited but a bit nervous. "When Archbishop Brunett celebrated the Eucharist with us, I appreciated how friendly he was to all of the children and that he had a wonderful sense of humor," a 6th grade student reported. In fact, many of the students commented that they were grateful he had a sense of humor. This may have put them at ease.
The Archbishop spent time after mass to visit with the students in their classrooms. "I enjoyed that he interacted with us," an 8th grade student commented. "He appeared relaxed and happy to visit our school," she added.
Our school and parish community were honored that Archbishop Brunett took time out of his busy schedule to visit us. We wish him a productive and happy retirement.
